Miami Beaches
Sun Fun and Entertainment

Miami Beaches are just spectacular. Miami is one of the biggest cities of the country, but besides the city when we say Miami we mean the county of Miami-Dade that covers the city of Miami and other cities, making it a huge metropolitan area, called the gate to and from Latin America.

I lived in Miami, Florida for more than 15 years and know its beaches one by one, because my Florida grandchildren love the beaches and we used to go almost all year round to swim and play.

Miami Tourism

Miami Tourism has been steadily growing through the years. A great example could be seen at Miami International Airport, MIA, where you see planes arriving to Miami from every corner of the world, not only on connections to other countries, but also with tourists that like what Miami and its beaches have to offer.

Miami is located on the south east corner of the Florida Peninsula facing the Atlantic Ocean, and offers an array of beautiful beaches of white sands and clear waters.

Since the Miami weather is mild most of the time, its beaches are crowded all the time. Even when we, the locals didn’t go to the beach because it was “cold”, they were full of Canadians, Europeans and American from the bitter cold north.

South Beach is one of the most important tourist spots in the USA

Miami Beach – South Beach

The area that goes from the very southern tip of Miami Beach around 5th Street all the way north to 21st Street is called South Beach or SoBe Miami for many. I am going to dedicate a whole article to this phenomenon. I saw it growing from an abandoned neighborhood to the glory of today.

It has all facilities you can imagine on the beach, but if you walk a few steps towards the main street Ocean Drive you’ll find hotels and restaurants with boardwalk tables one after the other. In the evenings the traffic is so bad that one has to parks many blocks away to be able to walk to the area of action.

Miami Beach – Central and north

This is the area that goes from 21st Street north to 78ths Street. It has a raised boardwalk over the dunes for walking or jogging. They offer umbrellas beach chairs, food and drinks concessions. It features shady grass areas, lifeguard towers and many other amenities.

North Shore Open Space Park

It is located from 78th Street to 87th Terrace. It has some walking trails and a not so crowded green park. It offers snack bars, picnic areas with tables. Some Sundays you may see it full with families with children enjoying their leisure day.

Surfside Beach

This is the area belonging to the City of Surfside Florida, between 87th and 96th Street. It is bordered by condominiums. Among the facilities offered are shower and restroom facilities, picnic tables, umbrella rentals and lifeguard patrol.

Bal Harbour Beach

In front of the famous Bal Harbour Shops and behind the spectacular condominiums of Collins Avenue and 96th Street you’ll find a nice piece of palm-shaded beach with jogging paths. No lifeguards are available on this beach.

Haulover Beach Park

Haulover Beach is located around 108th street on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. It is a spacious beach with shady picnic area with tables and barbeque grills. Pedestrian tunnels link you to the Park and marina on Biscayne Bay. It offers a golf course, tennis courts, kite flying area and more. On the northern part of the beach there is a secluded “clothing-optional” section.

Oleta River State Park

This sandy beach is located around 163rd Street facing Biscayne Bay. It offers many recreational activities. It is a very popular spot.

Sunny Isles Beach

This area of Collins Avenue from 157th Street to 193rd Street is a well kept beach that serves the elegant and luxury condominiums that have sprung here in the last decade or so. It is a stretch of white sand beach with many facilities of snacks, water sports and more.

Miami Beaches are ready to welcome you. I enjoyed them for many years and every time we go to Florida to visit our son and his family.
